I've been doing some extensive research lately on the video production providers in our market. Boy, there are a lot of us aren't there? A simple Google search of "video production madison wi" will lead to more than 20 production companies in the Madison market within the first five Google pages! Entry into the field has never been more affordable. A few thousand dollars will get you a decent camera, support gear, lights and an editing system. Add a little talent, knowledge, skill and viola! you're a "production company". Brings to mind the old saying that if it was easy, everyone would be doing it. Kinda feels like everyone's doing it these days. All you need is a cool name (I've often thought that if you add "productions" to the end of any other combination of words, it sounds cool. Try it - Rotten Egg Productions. Well, maybe not.) Anyway, were was I? Yes, the state of video production in Madison, Wi, ca 2015.
So, how does someone pick a video production company that is right for them? What are some of the things to look for and consider? After all, you have several choices!
Here are a few things to consider as you make your choice:
- Define why you need a video. What is the goal of the video? What do you want it to do? Who is your audience?
- What type of video do you need produced? A TV commercial? A client testimonial? A story about your company or organization?
Most of the production companies in Madison are "generalists". That is we are all able to produce video reasonably well in many different styles or genres. Some of us have more expertise in certain areas such as TV commercials or a long form story. A look at the videos on our websites will give you a pretty good idea of what we're good at (or not!).
Other things to consider:
- How experienced are the video companies you're considering?
Just because someone is young does not make them less talented. There are many young, talented practitioners of the video arts in our industry. However, talent does not always make up for a lack of experience. Experience teaches you things like what looks good to the human eye might not look good through a video camera.
- Will they deliver the goods?
Ultimately, a video production company is a business. We must service our clients. We must deliver what we say we are going to, on time and on budget.
We at Tweedee Productions pride ourselves on staying relevant in this industry. We keep up on the latest production styles, technology and business environment. We try to keep our website fresh with information and our latest productions. We practice what we preach - that websites need to use video effectively to be current and engaging.
